Polish Flag for a Yacht Bought Abroad: Spain, Italy & Germany (2026 Guide)

Voilier immatriculé avec succès sous pavillon polonais

Réponse courte : if you bought a yacht in Spain, Italy, Germany or anywhere else in Europe, you can register it under the Polish flag without going to Poland. VesselFlag prepares and files everything remotely, provisional papers are usually ready in 2–5 working days, and the registration costs from €320 once — with no renewals and no survey for yachts up to 15 m. Owners of all nationalities can register.

Why buyers choose the Polish flag after a purchase

  • Fast papers to move the boat. You need valid registration documents to sail the yacht home or to its new marina. Polish provisional papers usually arrive within days.
  • One payment, no renewals. A one-time fee from €320 instead of yearly or five-yearly registry costs.
  • EU flag. Recognised across European waters.
  • No survey up to 15 m. No inspection appointment to organise for most private yachts.
  • All nationalities. You don’t need to be Polish or live in Poland.

Step by step: from purchase to Polish registration

  1. Send us the purchase documents. Usually the bill of sale, the seller’s ownership papers and your ID or company documents.
  2. Deletion from the previous register. If the yacht was registered before, the seller requests its deletion and you receive a deletion certificate. If it was never registered — common for smaller boats in some countries — we work with the bill of sale and the builder’s or CE documents instead.
  3. We prepare and file the application with the Polish register and check every document before submission.
  4. Provisional papers in 2–5 working days, followed by the final registration document. A radio licence and MMSI number can be added for €149.

Notes for buyers in Spain, Italy and Germany

  • Spain: a yacht bought from a Spanish owner is usually deleted from the Spanish register first. If you live in Spain, check the local rules for using a foreign-flag yacht in Spanish waters — we can explain the options for your case.
  • Italy: the seller arranges the deletion from the Italian register before the yacht moves to the Polish flag. Smaller unregistered boats can also be registered in Poland.
  • Germany: many smaller German boats were never registered and only carried an international certificate. A Polish registration gives them a full flag-state document, which owners often prefer for cruising abroad.
  • Taxes and residence rules depend on where you live and where the yacht is used. The flag alone does not change them, so we recommend confirming your situation locally.
