Why Choose Marshall Islands Yacht Registration in 2026?

Flag registration

The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) runs one of the largest maritime registries in the world through International Registries, Inc., and has offered dedicated yacht registration since 2001. Owners choose it for its international reputation, ownership through a company by any nationality, a fully remote process and clear ongoing costs: a registration fee and a yearly tonnage fee. Vessel Flag prepares the application, deals with the registry and follows the case until your certificates are issued.

Marshall Islands Yacht Registration

Private, bareboat and commercial use

Private yachts of 12–24 m under 20 years old are exempt from the pre-registration inspection. Older yachts need an inspection first (an age waiver may apply), so ask us before you start. Commercial and charter use requires registration for commercial use and the commercial yacht standards. Private yachts of 24 m and over can apply for a Temporary Certificate of Registry for a Yacht Engaged in Trade (YET), limited to 84 days a year. Tell us how you plan to use the yacht and we will confirm the right category.

Step by step: how we register your yacht

  1. Free eligibility check. You send the yacht size, age, use and owner details. We confirm the route and the fees.
  2. Owning company. We prepare the company side: an existing Marshall Islands company, an existing foreign company registered as a Foreign Maritime Entity, or a new Marshall Islands company.
  3. Application to the registry. We send the draft application to the registry first for pre-clearance; the yacht name is reserved and the call sign and MMSI are assigned.
  4. Insurance and closing documents. You arrange third-party liability and hull-and-machinery insurance; we help with the closing documents.
  5. Certificates. Once the registry has the registration fee and the documents, it issues your certificates, and we send them to you.

Marshall Islands Yacht Registration FAQ

Our price has two parts. The registry fees are set in US dollars and paid at cost to the registry. For a private yacht under 24 m the first-year total is USD 1,600 (registration USD 550, tonnage tax USD 750 and radio licences USD 300), then USD 750 per year. If your owning company is a Marshall Islands company, its annual fee is USD 700; for a Foreign Maritime Entity it is USD 1,150 (per the registry’s 2025 corporate fee schedule, confirm at order).
